which half?\ not that I don't care about DNA or Einstein -- but if it is important enough for you to include  -- I thought I should know. -- so which half of the banana was bruised?

John - I am trying to listen very carefully to this amazing lecture, halfway thru, going "back and forth" remember I have never attended a lecture on chemistry while still battling with the most recent accusation by Mr. GS that I may suffer from ADD - although I believe Absent Parenting Disease is often misdiagnosed which brings me back to my Dark Matter communiqués with those yoyos involved with degenerative diseases.

This UCSD professor is now talking about fish which has me thinking of this graphic Marie is tasked with drawing showing this big grouper about to eat a piranha all part of the "sheer lunacy" clothing line that is one of several income streams associated with Manager Minute One.

Now the professor whose image started to morph right at the time he started talking about mutation my feeling much better hearing him now say, "we have got through the hard part."

Interesting that this revolution of biology took place in 1944 while my father was just beginning to bomb the crap out of the Nazi bastards.

My trying to make sense of the following:

"...make no bones about it... Early in the century Einstein gave up on this business of an ether pervading the universe and all sorts of fantastic stuff... time being a 4th dimension and although undoubtedly this revolution was not something that the person on the street just could swallow with any sense of understanding... the notion that there are quanta little bundles of energy... nature really does makes jumps and with the quantum mechanical description of atoms mysterious for the average person probably for the average chemist ...In contrast the revolution in biology should be understood by anyone...any 2 people looking at a revolution will see it differently .. first time it was shown that dna is the genetic material ...couple of guys getting together jrking off John D. Rockefeller at 26th and Broadway in New York City a hop-jump-and-a-scotch from the Rockefeller Institute...change one type of bacterium into another by supplying the dna of one to the other...Pneumonia ...all living things on this earth are related, and they were right...9 years later the big event occurred that most people associate with the revLON... Watson...built a model of how dna is structured and what was fascinating hidden in that model were 2 facets... it showed how dna worked at the moment and how it remembered what it was going to do later...Dna is the blueprint u r your proteins... DNA the thread of life...G... fragile...faithful...spiral staircase...Biological unity and diversity, all made of the same building blocks and the diversity... put together differently...G versus a C...Big versus small, can replicate faithfully and remember...T vs A...photograph negative and positive all the way down...Mutations are mistakes...4 letters over and over...Ladder-like symmetry... base pairing rules...Taught in kindergarten... big opposite small...Blue versus yellow...Replicate faithfully and remember...Does not separate on its own and come back together...Holy Trinity...Dna to dna replication....Transcript dna to rna...Translation Decode rna...Poli-Pollak makes Poli.... U substituted for letter T...Why so evolutionary...Read backwards... reconstruct the history of life on earth, really exciting...Mammals, Po-li not being one have similar sequencing...Family tree...cannot explain how I was able to change Po-li into a cancerous e-coli enzyme much like a chicken changing into an ostrich...Lesson is the diversity comes about normally...Kinds of change were different... more distant the relationship... insertions and deletions...1978...fruit fly buzzing around your banana..." [sic].

Half the banana I ate for lunch was bruised.

More importantly perhaps Darlene Katz with her art-chemistry background may be able to shed some light on these matters as I now begin to focus on the 2nd half of the lecture, while thinking about my response to "Mr. Benz's" [sic] most recent missive which is not to suggest that I have sufficient evidence to conclude that the fate that awaits Po-li Pollak unless he does a quick "roundabout turn" will befall Mr. Genz who may in fact have a sense of humor unlike Po-li and folks like Mr. Debonair JRK when under pressure.

Thanks again for this terrific material.

Gary

When the link opens,  click on the Russ Doolittle item  (first entry) and another screen will appear giving you a chance to buy it or a "Real player" icon offering the "Play it now" option.  Click on the little blue  icon and it will play if your hardware supports it.

Otherwise, open it on some other computer.

I am battling to get this 54 minute program to work on my computer. Can you direct Adam Tucker to assist me?

Here is the Millennium lecture by Russ Doolittle in which he develops the concept that DNA is running everything in a clearly God-like fashion.

Russ carefully avoids verbalizing that directly but the inference is clear to those who would listen.

The 54 minute program can be watched directly from this link.  In his opening slide, he recognizes Dr. Ruth Kavenoff and her dramatic physical observation of DNA.   You would be well served to watch this program.
