My only concern is that Derrick will respond emotionally because of your candor. However, I don't know that it could have been written any other way.
It is obvious Derrick not unlike myself, holds his uncle in great regard. It is difficult to have the strength to point the finger at home. In the least whether he likes it or not and whether he ever speaks to you or not, he will now look at his uncle in a different light, wondering if there is validity to what you said. ... that is, if he didn't know already.
I empathize with him because, knowing you it is only an matter of time before you will ask me to do the same.
