Dear Mr. Manuel,

I have observed very keenly recent events in South Africa, particularly the slide of the Rand. I have spent most of my career ferreting out corporate fraud and more recently in the public arena, specifically in the area commonly known in the United States as Shareholder Class Action Litigation which I term SCAL.

In our business we start from the bottom up and it doesn't take me very long to gauge to what extent the fish rots from the head down. My success rate is quite remarkable. I have in fact a 100% success rate in uncovering "SCAL fraud" where the requirements of "proof" are high then your average blue collar crime. Proving "scienter" i.e. culpable state of mind requires much more than circumstantial evidence; all the evidence has to be corroborated and of course the better the evidence the better the proof.

I have no certifications. In fact I refer to myself as a "failed university tutor who couldn't even achieve lecturer status." Although I completed a B.Com degree at Natal University before leaving the country, naturally not fulfilling my military "obligations," I did, however, manage to achieve my goal which was to dissuade as many first year business-accounting students as possible to seek alternative paths "to freedom, health, happiness and of course we should all be prosperous." I would explain to my students, "Business is not something that can be taught for it requires first and foremost an understanding of human nature, something one learns around the dining room table, from parents, grandparents, from ones friends, watching what goes on in the streets. It is all about human interaction. Business is more art form than it is science; better off studying art but if you cannot draw you probably won't make a living as a painter-artist... Then try the liberal arts, as in Shakespeare, as in "Oh what a tangled web... because the only thing promoted in this pigeon-faculty is how to commit larceny, penistentiary is for the birds" [sic]. I did take Latin in hi-school but math is where it is at; metric helps though, pigeon English for sure a better way to go then the white folk who would still prefer Black folk use the back door. Mr. Manuel I know you are not considered "Black" by those controlling the purse strings but I think you get my drift. I am a serfer dude from Durbs. I did once meet you with guy by the name of David who has tried a thing or tTOo in the past some with good success but now I think it is time you started to think about having on your team first league pitchers and a batter that knows how to respond to fast balls thrown at or near head.

Mr. Manuel despite the very clear signs on the wall it may in fact be soon time to rejoice; in fact I have never been more optimistic about the opportunities as they stand today to help meet my South African "obligations." 

Of course the stock markets all around the world are going to come crashing down but that is in fact an opportunity for countries like South Africa to stand tall. Although I am mostly retired I plan to launch over the next several weeks an array of some 78 odd websites that will all be tied in to the main hub, known as NextraTerrestrial.com [www.nextraterrestrial.com] as in Next...Trial. It "remains" under construction although we have already got quite a few "hits" although we have yet to contact more than a handful of organizations who, however, know me much better than you do.

Although I didn't exactly grow up on the streets, I was however, schooled by my grandfather Issy Gevisser one of the founders of Moshal Gevisser. I know exactly how to help you folks that is assuming you really want to be helped. I do not mean that in a discourteous way but what I have to tell you in terms of what you need to do next would absolutely, most positively, not be well received by the "ruling elite." Make no mistake I am very much a "free market capitalist." The difference, however, between my perspectives and the "conventional wisdom" is that I have the track record of success, time and again. Equally important I have no conflict of interest. You know the old saying, "Who do you want to be in business with, a clever crook or an honest fool?"

Those of us working in the "scal works" understand perfectly well that the run on the Rand was not some act of God despite what the commission supposedly concluded. In fact I never even read the report but was told about it by a South African lawyer I met on the Inka trail in Peru a couple of months back. He was returning to South Africa after spending a couple of years working in Brazil. Today, perhaps more than ever you need to attract more of the brain drain that occurred during the 40 years in the desert. There is much catch-up needed but you have the resources to leap frog over those who are resting on their laurels, looking for a kick-start, believing that horsepower, brute force is the way to go when in fact we are already seeing shifts in patterns, not just in the stock market but more importantly in the risk markets; i.e. the winds of change are already shifting. I know a little about the insurance having run the largest insurance for-profit marketing and publishing company in the United States.

I know how you can in fact get to the bottom of the situation, at least have a good shot of getting at the truth. At a minimum right now there exists a serious credibility gap that will only widen as the folks who made out like bandits will use their ill-gotten gains to gain even more leverage. Yes, I know about leverage, especially given the fact that my grandfather started the Moshal Gevisser Group of Companies by pushing a wheelbarrow picking up unbroken bottles off the streets of Durban. Today I have in fact "mastered" how to leverage the Internet. 

Anyone who tells you that the collapse which took place was "in the ordinary course of business" needs a refresher course in reality checks, i.e. when did they last get an oil change or are they simply in need of a lobotomy? At a minimum I will give them free of charge a lesson in "bottoms up schooling." There is a reading in the Jewish Torah this week that talks to this subject rather well. Once we start getting the word out, once I show the world the credibility I bring to the table you can bet your bottom Rand that tongues will begin to start wagging in more ways than most white folks, particularly my Jewish brothers would ever imagine. I intend to spell out some truths about our not so pure-white community that have not to my knowledge ever been told before, certainly they were not discussed around the dining room table and would have been considered "liberal." My cousin, Mark Gevisser is a good story teller but perhaps Mark, despite saying the "Jewish community could have done more" is simply too close to the wood to see the fire that is burning bright. In other words there are enough bright folks outside of South Africa who want to help but it requires those on the ground to be ready to stand tall.

If you listen carefully to the white South African conversation today you will hear, "This government is worse than the previous government; they have picked up the worst habits and thrown out the bathrooms along with the kitchen sink replacing tubs with SUVs, SUBS, tanks, missiles to knowwhere but to their bedfellows Saddam, Gadfly to boot, elected officials who are not simply pigs at the trough but worse don't even know how to cover their tracks; such feasts of fools only know from playing pong" [sic].

Ping is for golfers. This is not the time to be a gopher. The world is watching right now as the Muppets show their struthers. Now is not the time to dilly dally but to come out striking with your lefts and WRITES.

My eldest brother though is the poet in the family. He in fact may have had published in South Africa the first ever anti-apartheid book. He said it best,
